Wake on LAN From Internet Using a Thomson Router

Wake on LAN from the internet is possible for a PC behind some, if not all, Thomson routers.
I've tested this with a TG585v7 and TG587n v2.

First you need to ensure WOL is working from within your local network.

Then do the following:
1) Create a port forward rule for WoL, usually port 7 UDP.
2) Place the target PC on a static DHCP IP and assign the port forward rule to the target PC.
3) Create a static entry in the routers ARP table for the target PC.

1) Create a port forward rule for WoL
In the routers GUI go to Toolbox, Game & Application Sharing, Create a new game or application.
Give the new rule a name "WoL"
Select "Manual Entry of Port Maps"
Click "Next"

On this next page enter:
Protocol:  select UDP
Port Range:  enter 7 to 7  ( or whichever port you wish to use for WOL )
Click "Add"

2) Place the target PC on a static DHCP IP and assign the port forward rule to the target PC.

Go to Home Network and select the target PC

Place a tick in "Always use the same IP address", click "Apply"
Select Wol and click "Add"

Before leaving this page, make a note of the target PC's Physical Address (MAC Address) and IP Address.
You'll need this information later.

3) Create a static entry in the routers ARP table for the target PC.

Now go to "O2 Wireless Box", Configuration, Save or Restore Configuration
Click "Backup Configuration Now" and save the file to a safe place.

Open this saved file in Notepad

Find the section starting with  [ip.ini ]
At the end of this section add the line highlighted in green.
arpadd intf=LocalNetwork ip=192.168.1.66 hwaddr=00:00:48:8f:03:9a

Change the IP address and hardware address to suit your target PC ( use the addresses noted in section 2 above ).
After modifying this file save it under a new name.

Go back to "O2 Wireless Box", Configuration, Save or Restore Configuration.
Click "Restore Configuration Now" and select the above modified file.
After the file has loaded the router reboot.

That's it, WOL from internet should now work on the target PC.
