Set  WDS  Via Telnet
Thomson TG585v7 and TG587n v2

If you need help with telnet commands, see this first telnet.html

First a word of caution
I achieved a WDS connection between a TG585v7 and  TG587n v2. It was usable for web browsing but packet loss reduced network speed to less than 500kbps.
I also tried a WDS connection between a TG585 v7 and a Netgear DG834GT set to WDS repeater mode. Unfortunately packet loss was unacceptably high.

WDS on the routers GUI v the cli commands
WDS has been removed from the web interface on some versions of the firmware, but the feature is still accessible via telnet.
The following is an attempt to relate the telnet commands to the WDS settings in the user interface.

The above web interface capture shows the default state with WDS disabled

The telnet commands to achieve this are:-
wireless wds config  --  show if WDS is enabled or disabled.
wireless wds config state=disabled
 -- disables WDS
wireless wds scanresults rescan=enabled  --  Shows available wireless networks and their MAC address.

The above web interface capture shows WDS enabled to the Blackdog wireless access point.

The
telnet commands to achieve this are:-
wireless wds add bssid=00:24:17:e2:xx:xx name=Blackdog
-- Sets WDS to the Blackdog network.
wireless wds config state=enabled  -- Finally enable the wds connection.
wireless wds list -- Lists WDS enabled access points set.

The complete telnet commands to enable a WDS access point.

Commands Comments
wireless wds config state=disabled Start with WDS disabled
wireless wds scanresults rescan=enabled List available wireless networks and their MAC address.
wireless wds add bssid=00:24:17:e2:xx:xx name=Blackdog Use MAC address and SSID of the target router.
wireless wds list List the WDS access points registered in this router.
wireless wds config state=enabled Finally enable the wds connection.
saveall Don't forget this.

Note: the last two parts of the MAC address have been hiden for security.

Final check that all is well.

Issue the telnet command interface list
Check that the wireless port "wl_ssid0_wds1" has been created and connected to "WL_0_wds1", shown highlighted.
If the wireless port is not shown try:-
wireless wds config state=disabled   and then   wireless wds config state=enabled
If the wireless ports is shown but no bridge connection, try rebooting the router.

Repeat the above on the second router.
Also for WDS to work both routers need to:-
Use WEP security.
Have the same wireless security key.
Be set to the same wireless channel

Undo

Command
wireless wds config state=disabled
saveall
